EXPLAINED: THE BESAFE DYNAMIC FORCE ABSORBER™

A technologically advanced construction for optimized and the most controlled side impact protection.

Side impacts – why they are dangerous and why children need special protection

After frontal impacts, side impacts are the second most common source of serious injuries for children. Cars do not have an energy-absorbing crumple zone to the sides as they have in the front. And while protecting the child, child car seats also make the child sit higher up in the car with less shielding from the metal parts of the car body. In addition, a child’s head is much heavier in relation to the rest of the body than for adults, meaning that it creates a lot of forces when accelerating to the side and therewith puts great strain on the child’s neck.

As a result, children are especially vulnerable in side impacts and it is crucial that their child car seat shields them from the impact and absorbs the forces especially in the head area.

The most advanced solution: the Dynamic Force Absorber™

The Dynamic Force Absorber™ is a state-of-the-art solution made of special materials and a construction of different flex-zones. Its advanced design allows for a controlled bending in the inner area while staying more rigid in the outer frame, through which forces are optimally absorbed.

How it works

To understand the effect of the Dynamic Force Absorber easiest, imagine falling from a great height. If you were landing just on the hard ground, your fall would come to an extremely abrupt stop, which is very painful and dangerous. If you instead had a trampoline standing on the ground, this trampoline would bend when you reach its surface. Through its flexible materials, it would gradually decelerate your fall, which significantly reduces the forces on your body and gives you a soft landing.

The Dynamic Force Absorber™ works just like that. By bending like a trampoline, it reduces the acceleration gently and avoids a sudden stop which would otherwise result in high G-forces. The bendiness of the material in the Dynamic Force Absorber™ is achieved through V-shaped holes placed in an alternating pattern. This way, the material can elongate in two directions in an impact and goes back to its original surface instead of staying deformed after the impact.

The optimal flexibility of the Dynamic Force Absorber™ has been achieved through the material choice and by carefully adjusting its geometric properties like wall thickness, space between the holes or the length of the holes. This way, the Dynamic Force Absorber™ allows for a perfectly controlled and very gentle “catching” of the child to give them the most advanced protection in a side impact.
